Your flooring
When it's time to request a quote or invest in a new floor, determining the required square meterage is essential. Our measuring guide presents a simple method to calculate your room's area, ensuring you're well-prepared for your flooring purchase.
At its simplest, calculate the room's area by multiplying its width by its
length. This basic formula provides the total area that needs to be covered
with flooring.
Calculating area and cost
Wood flooring is available in various packs and sizes, lacking standardization. On each product page, you'll find a price calculator that offers an estimated cost for a specified area. Input your room measurements, and the calculator
will display the corresponding price.
Measuring rectangular and L-shaped rooms
Measuring Rectangular Rooms:
- Measure the width and length.
Measuring L-shaped rooms:
- Divide the room into two rectangles.
- Measure each space and multiply lengths by widths.
- Add the totals: e.g., (6.5 x 5.1) + (3.5 x 2.1) = 40.5M2.
Remember to factor in wastage!
Unfortunately, rooms are not always built with the precise measurements of the flooring you choose! Because of this, a degree of cutting and reconfiguring is always necessary.
Critical to this process is remembering to allow for wastage typically around 10% for a board or strip floor and approximately 15% for herringbone floors. This precaution accommodates cuts, adjustments, or unforeseen variations during the installation process.
